What Fills Your Cup?

tea anthropologie

This is my favorite cup and my husband often fills it with hot lemon water that I like to drink in the morning. It’s also often filled with decaf tea. ☕️ What do you fill your cup with?

I’ve been talking with my husband a lot about the insatiable needs we have at times. Can you relate? There can be one pleasure after another, one food after another, one drink after another but still left feeling empty.

Thinking about cups being filled, I realize sometimes I run on empty. I can look for the wrong things to fill me and focus my thoughts on non-life giving things. Approval of others, comparison, mean self talk are things I can focus on and all don’t leave me feeling full.

I believe this insatiable need for more can be filled. Not by more stuff, more Instagram followers, more experiences, more money, etc. Not that wanting these things is bad, but when we look for them to fill us I believe it will leave us feeling empty, even good things.

My cup does overflow at times. I don’t live in this space but I would love to. My cup overflows when I sit in God’s presence and let His words sink deep in my heart. When I look to what the Bible says about my identity and not what my circumstance say. Psalm 23 speaks my heart on this matter:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

May your cup overflow with the truth that you are loved my the One who made you. What is your cup filled with?
