Spurs and Kane put contract talks on hold
Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane are too far apart to come to a decision on the player’s new contract. Kane is still on contract with the Spurs until 2020, but with Daniel Levy trying to lock up all of the young stars on the team to new contracts, talks had been heating up until recently. Reports are out that talks are ceasing for the moment and are set to resume after the holiday season.
Kane had exploded last season for Tottenham in route to 26 premier league goals to earn the golden boot for Spurs. Kane has not been as successful this campaign, with his abilities commanding double teams often. Kane looks to get things back on track as Tottenham continue their unbeaten run in the 2017-17 season.
Tottenham is notorious for being financially stingy, so it is not surprising that they have not paid out completely for his services. What is surprising is that Kane, who is their marque player, has not been signed to his new deal yet. For players of his position, Kane is being underpaid comparatively speaking to other players from top clubs who have been far less successful. But with Kane under contract for another three years already, there is no real rush to get this deal done.
With Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Alli already signed to new contracts, Kane was looking for a similar pay day. Tottenham so far have been reluctant to offer him the type of money he desires at the moment. Most do not expect Kane to move clubs any time soon, with Kane professing his future to the club on several occasions, Tottenham fans have little to worry about in regards to these contract discussions going forward. Harry Kane looks to be a Spur for the long term.
