“Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.” Proverbs 4:23 (NCV) The way our culture thinks and the world thinks is often much different than what I read in the Bible. I get anxiety and striving when I think the worlds way, and so much peace and contentment when my mind is set on Christ. This goes for so many different areas of my life but money and wealth is what has been coming up lately. I read these words in scripture this morning and it blew me away... “People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish. This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them. People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.” Psalm 49:12-13, 16-17, 20
This is so different than what we hear in our culture. The world says people with money and followers are the ones who've made it. The ones to look to and to be like. But God says something very different: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
The kindness, love and service we give to others is what can last beyond this earth. I don't think money is bad but our heart condition about money can be. We can be a slave to money, or a child of God. When God asks us to give of our money to others He's not trying to take our money, He's allowing us to not have our money take us. These truths of God I need to remind myself of often and dwell on. What do you think? Love to hear from you!
