Trials in life can be overwhelming, but palm trees š“ remind me of how to get through storms of life. They remind me to look up, let go of things dragging me down, have a strong anchor & to be flexible.
I can easily forget to look up during storms or stress in my life. I become more self focused: dwelling on my insecurity's & flaws which leave me feeling helpless. But when I look up towards Godās love towards me and others, it frees me up. āI lift up my eyes to the mountainsā where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.ā -Psalm 121:1-2
There are occasional big wind storms in Pasadena. After a storm I walked around to find trees had fallen down all over the place. I saw palm tree leaves that had fallen, but not one full palm treeš“ had fallen over. Even some of the biggest trees didnāt make it, but the palms trees were standing. They let go of branches holding them back, and fold up the rest. āHe cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.ā -John 15:5. A reminder for me to let go of bitterness, un-forgiveness, jealousy, comparison etc. and hold tight to love, joy & peace.
The Palm tree š“ has a strong anchor. The anchor of my life, my faith in Christ and the reliability of the promises Heās made sustains me. āWe have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.ā Hebrews 6:19.
The palm tree is flexible during the storm, so that it canāt be pulled down. Reframing & flipping the script of my storms, helps me to not be pulled over as well āConsider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.ā -James 1:2-3
How could this help you through a storm? š“love hearing from you?
