Is any part of your heart broken? Dead? Shattered?
I think of brokenness in my life. I think of you. I think of some beautiful young friends I’ve known who have lost their lives too soon. I think of my past therapy clients and past students who struggled with self-hatred and depression. I think of loved ones who are going through very tough times. I cry for those who hearts feel dead today: who are living, but not really alive. I pray for them, for you and I am in agreement with the scriptures that God can make dead bones come to life.
In the book of Ezekiel Chapter 37 the Lord brought Ezekiel to a valley full of very dry bones. The Lord asked him “can these bones live?” You guys come on and picture this with me. A valley of VERY dry bones. Do you think they could come alive? Now picture those broken hearts. Could they ever come alive?
God told Ezekiel to speak over the dry bones to come to life. Ezekiel did and they came together, breath entered them and they stood up on their feet- a vast army. Imagine that!! A valley full of dry bones coming together because of God and having breathe, life, hope and purpose back into their lives!! Then God said to Ezekiel “these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Can you relate? Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone? I know I can.
But God said to them “…I will open your graves and bring you up, bring you back to the land and put my Spirit in you and you will live.” Do you know that is what he says to us today too? He tells us He will give us His Spirit. He promises that He can make dead things come alive. He shows it time and time again through His word. I know firsthand God does this. He does it in my life and in other people's lives I know.
We're not too far gone today. Not too lost, too broken. If God can speak life into dry bones He can speak life into us. Into our heart, he can restore hope to us again. And He tells us to speak life into each other.
