Where to stay in Coronado Island: 1906 Lodge Coronado Beach
Accommodations
With many options for your accommodations during your stay, where to stay in Coronado Island becomes much easier with the variety of choices at the 1906 Lodge Coronado Beach. There are many room options such as the ADA Grand King Spa, Grand King Spa, Garden King Spa with Sofa Bed, Garden King, Garden Double Queen, ADA Historic Lodge, and Historic Lodge King guest-rooms.
We had the pleasure of staying in the Grand King Spa Guestroom called “Trolley Car” which was on the second floor of the hotel. Our room included a large in-room spa tub, a spacious seating area, king bed, balcony with garden and island views, and small kitchenette (sink and fridge) with seating.
We loved the fact that we could enjoy romantic sunsets on our balcony over their happy hour complimentary afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres. This was the perfect touch after a long day at the beach to come back and sit in the quiet tranquility that is the 1906 Lodge.
The Beach
When looking for what to do on Coronado Island, Coronado Beach which stretches 1.75 miles on the southern side of the island is perfect for romantic walks and breathtaking views of the Pacific. We would take a walk each morning and evening along the sandy beaches (including the Coronado Beach Dog Park) enjoying the quiet and peaceful sounds of the waves and refreshing ocean breeze. The beach is only two blocks from the 1906 Lodge and is worth considering when looking at where to stay in Coronado Island.
Dining
So at this point you might be wondering, “what are the best places to eat on Coronado Island?”, or even the best place to eat breakfast on Coronado Island. The 1906 Lodge is close to the main street (Orange Avenue) which has plenty of options to eat. One of the things we loved most about our stay at the 1906 Lodge was their hot breakfast. Each morning starting at 8am, you can call down to the front desk from your room and order a complimentary hot breakfast from the kitchen, which you can then pick up from the dining area downstairs. We were lucky enough to enjoy fried eggs, sweet pastries, and lovely fruit during our stay. The chef on staff at the 1906 Lodge has a wonderful selection of flavor combinations in each dish which combine so beautifully together into a delicious meal to enjoy. This is a delightful addition to their service which takes them above and beyond the other hotels on Coronado Island.
For dinner, we always love finding the best gluten free options for Stefanie, and they happened to have one of our favorite small burger chains on Orange Street called Burger Lounge which offers delicious burgers made with healthy meat and ingredients. They have a great gluten free bun which we always recommend. We enjoyed that meal twice for pick-up at their store on Orange.
Parking
Finding the right parking situation while staying at hotels on Coronado Island in San Diego can be a bit tricky, but rest at ease because the 1906 Lodge Coronado Beach has their own parking garage underneath the property which has spaces for you to park. If you have a large vehicle (like us) they recommend parking on the street close to the hotel. We were able to find a spot and we didn’t move our car again for the rest of our stay because everything is so close in proximity to the hotel.
Concluding Thoughts
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the 1906 Lodge Coronado Beach. We loved finding things to do on Coronado Island as well as the best places to eat. It was the perfect quiet, romantic getaway that we needed, and we highly recommend staying with them the next time you book a trip to Coronado Island.
