Happy Father's Day! I know this day holds many different emotions for people. There's a father absent crisis in America with 1 in 3 children living without their biological father and many others with lots of pain from a father that was not emotionally present or abusive etc. I loved what Mike Tomlin (head coach of the Pittsburgh @steelers) said in an interview with our friend @dougsmithlive with @l3leadership. Doug asked Tomlin how he was able to overcome fatherlessness... Tomlin shared, What he wasn't aware of then that he is now, is that he had many men that were like fathers to him in his life. In the past he was caught up in what he didn't have, a relationship biological father, but now he is appreciative of what he does have and did have: godly mentors in his life. Today at our church, it was shared that one man who is a key member and amazing godly man was thrown into a dumpster as a baby in the country he was born in. He was also rejected by his foster parents when he came to the US. The odds were stacked against him and he could have used these facts as an excuse his entire life to never make something positive of himself. Instead he embraced God as His true and devoted father. Every time he wanted to throw in the towel God gave him another towel so to speak and instead of a statistic he is a world changer for the kingdom of God. So I encourage each person today as our pastor @matthewbarnett11 encouraged us. Don't be discouraged if things are stacked against you. Let's instead focus on what we do have and "Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the Lord. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.-Psalm 68:4-5 Caleb and I are so grateful for the ways our dads continually show such unconditional love & provision over our lives. They continually model hard work, and so many amazing life lessons. Our hearts and prayers are with those who on this day are experiencing pain. God is “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, this is our God" Psalm 68:5 What's a praise you can share with us today? Love to hear from you!
